Members of Caerphilly C.B.C Cabinet will visit Ichthus Ceramics in order to view the project which was funded by the Caerphilli Cwm y Mynydd RDP Partnership through the Rural Industry and Produce Innovation Fund.

Crafts for Everyone Secure Funding For Training Programme.

Crafts for Everyone has succeeded with our application to the Coalfields Social Enterprise Grants Scheme Level Three for our ceramic project ‘Ichthus Ceramics’.

The grant of £63,134 will be used to provide training aimed at improving the skills of people with disabilities and the long term unemployed. It has secured the posts of our Ceramicist Huw Raine and Support Worker Kerri Birkby, it has also created the post of Sales/Marketing Person and as a result Sue Lewis joined the company in December.

Crafts For Everyone will be celebrating ten years service to the community in July 2011. The company began life as a Millennium project in June 2001. Some ways of marking the event have already been decided e.g. local schools will have free pottery workshops at Ichthus Ceramics, and a special celebration party is planned on 20th July at Newbridge Rugby Club, where friends who used to attend  the project will be invited to join the present members and staff to celebrate the anniversary, so if you have ever had any involvement at Crafts for Everyone, get in touch for your invite, it will be great to see you.

Starting the weeks 11th and 18th July, free ceramic work shops have been offered to local schools to help us celebrate.  Four schools that are getting involved and joining in on the fun so far are, Crumlin High Level, Sofrydd Juniors, Cwmcarn Infants and Bryn Juniors from Pontlanfraith.

During the coming weeks the students at the 4 therapeutic art sessions will be very busy creating their own totum poles, ideas for these range from, under the sea, Egypt and the jungle, so they promise to be very colourful. Each part of the totum is made from cardboard tubes, shaped with papier mache into various objects and then painted and fitted over a large tall tube. The poles will be judged and the winners will be announced on the night of the anniversary celebrations where everyone will receive prizes.
