Volunteers

“I heard about Crafts for Everyone through a family member who suggested I give it a go, so I did, that was 10 years ago and I still enjoy it as much now as I did then.
Coming to the pottery means that I get out of the house, it would drive me nuts if I had to stay at home all the time.
I enjoy painting the garden ware, such as the snails and stars and I glaze the christmas trees too.
I have made some great friends some of which will be life long. I will be coming to Ichthus Ceramics forever.”

”I have been with Crafts for Everyone for nearly 6 years and in that time I have learned a lot about the pottery, things like slip casting, glazing, mould making and how to work with Terracotta, I really like mould making.
I love coming to Ichthus Ceramics because everyone i so friendly and I have made lots of friends. I’m going to be coming to the pottery for years to come.”

”I started volunteering in the pottery once a week, then went up to twice a week and now I come 3 times a week and I love it, I’ve been here nearly 4 years.
I really like mould making and making the shelves for the kilns.
Everybody is so friendly and I have made lots of friends.”

”Like a lot of the volunteers I came to the pottery through Working Links and decided to stay on after my months training.
I’ve never done anything like this before and I’m really enjoying learning the different things involved in the pottery. I really enjoy fettling the items and it’s good to see the finished results.
Everyone is always so friendly.”

“I first Came to Crafts for Everyone through the job centre, I liked it so much that after my two weeks work experience were up I decided to stay on and volunteer two days a week.
Coming to Crafts for Everyone gets me out of the house and relieves the boredom. I like the art side of the therapeutic classes and I like to get messy in the pottery. I am really pleased with the pot that I have made from Terracotta.
I like working with all the people at Crafts for Everyone and I get on well with everyone. I will be volunteering for as long as I can because I love it so much.”

“I first came to Crafts for Everyone through Fast Forward which is an organisation that puts people into paid work placement for six and they thought that I would be interested in working in the pottery, they were right.
I have really enjoyed myself in the pottery and I am enjoying learning the different processes with the materials. I have made a Terracotta Meerkat which will eventually be made into a mould for reproduction.
Now that my placement is up, I volunteer because I love it so much. The atmosphere is always nice and the other volunteers and staff are always so helpful. It is nice to be able to work somewhere where my skills and interests can be put to good use.”

“I first came to Ichthus Ceramics through the job centre, who recommended that I volunteer to get me used to being in a work environment as I had been a stay at home mum for 21 years. They put me in touch with GAVO who in-turn referred me to Crafts for Everyone.
I have found that everyone is so friendly and I have enjoyed meeting new people and having fun while I have been learning, and the staff are always friendly and helpful.
I enjoy fettling the items and like the way that they look when they are finished.
I’m going to keep coming back to volunteer for as long as I possibly can.”
